Braxton's Room

I think my son has a pretty cool room. His nursery was adorable (I will have to post pics on that sometime), but when it was time to make it a little more grown up - and something that would last him a while - I decided on a 'vintage sports' theme.

He has a plaid sports comforter, sham and pillow. I had four different pieces of mix-matched furniture (some old, some new) that I painted navy and replaced all the hardware to make it look like a matching set. Two different lamps with two different lampshades were updated with self-sticking lampshades I covered in a coordinating plaid fabric. Sports balls are showcased in jars. I repainted his name letters a deep red and then roughed up the edges with sand paper. I found a sports clock on Ebay that was vintage looking. And to top everything off - my favorite part - I purchased Norman Rockwell sport prints and had them matted and framed.

Vintage sports, indeed.

Amy,

I LOVE Braxton's room! Thank You for showing more pictures of it. Are the walls wallpaper or did you paint the stripes yourself? If so, how did you do it- what width are the stripes? I really like how you put the different balls in the jars. Fun!

Thanks!
Heather:)

Heather,

The stripes on the walls are actually painted. The entire wall was painted the cream color and then, since I was very pregnant at the time, my hubby measured every 8 inches and made marks on the walls. Then we taped off the stripes and painted every other section the darker tan color. This was done for Braxton's nursery, but when I switched his room to the new decor, the stripes worked perfectly!

I love the look of the stripes. I think I may tackle this at our new house in Kyle's room. He loves "americana" (anything to do with flags and stars) and we have a transportation theme as well so this may be a good foundation for his room. It has been a challenge mixing the two and finding something that would look good on the walls without going too "themey". Thank You!
