One morning I came downstairs to a nice surprise. Floating at the top of the tank was a grouping of bubbles - a bubblenest! Male bettas make bubblenests for two reasons: either they are getting ready to spawn with a female or they are healthy and happy. Since Owen does not have a mate, that must mean he's happy! I had read about bubblenests online, but was really happy to see one in person from my own fish. (Bob has also made a couple of bubblenests.) Too cool!
